MANISTEE -- The Women’s Economic Resource Center (WERC) will have a new home December first. New offices will open in Suite 106 on the first floor of the Briny Building in Manistee.
This is an exciting step toward being able to provide resources and services to women in business, said Judy Crockett, chair of WERC. We will now have a place, an office, accessible to women looking for business and leadership support.
The Women’s Economic Resource Center was officially formed in June, 2007. It grew out of the Women’s netWork founded in May, 2005 by Crockett and Vanessa Buhs as part of a two-day professional development and leadership seminar. The WERC organization has grown to include over 500 women from throughout Michigan.
Over the past two-and-a-half years, we have gathered many resources, books, and information that currently are in boxes and drawers in a number of places. We will now take the time to compile and sort the information to offer easy access to anyone looking for business and leadership support, said Crockett.
The Briny Building is the perfect location for us to get established. There are a number of successful enterprises going on in the Briny and there is room for expansion and the development of new businesses.
The office will be fully furnished thanks to the generous donation of office furniture by Jo Hall, an agent with Ron Ringle and Associates in Manistee.
Jo has been instrumental in the growth of WERC and this donation demonstrates her commitment to WERC and to the women and girls in Manistee County and the surrounding area, said Crockett.
WERC will have a library of information and resources available in the new offices. The office will be staffed by volunteers.
