January
5, 2008 | From the League of Women Voters of
Manistee County:
League
of Women Voters to meet January 10th to discuss
Immigration Policy
2008
will be a busy time for League of Women Voters Manistee County.
As
2008 counts down to the November General Election, League of
Women Voters Manistee County will be asking many of those same
'hard questions' of would be candidates, both in Primary and
General Election Candidate Forums.
On
January 10, at 7pm at the Farr Center, Main Street, Onekama, the
local League takes up the issue of reaching consensus on
immigration policy. This is in preparation to fulfill a National
US LWV consensus. Anyone may attend and the LWVUS Immigration
Consensus discussion documents can be viewed at www.lwv.org
Immigration
is one of those 'hot button' issues for 2008. We should also
note that Manistee County itself was populated by immigrants of
many nationalities, many of whom arrived here long before there
were any laws governing settlement. An excellent PBS Series
"Destination
America" can be
seen on PBS's website.
With
the high level of interest in the 2008 election already, League
of Women Voters Manistee County is in for an interesting year!
Why not join us?!
