March
6, 2008 | League
of Women Voters Upcoming Events
Firstly
a reminder that there will not be a formal general LWV
membership meeting this month.
Secondly - a reminder that March is when we celebrate both
Women's
History and Sunshine Week. If you see an area where the Open
Meetings
Act and Freedom of Information Act is either being ignored,
compromised or where the benefits of it are obvious, please
consider
writing to your local elected officials or media
representatives. See
www.sunshineweek.org
For true democracy to flourish, open and transparent government
is
both the law and our right. The public's business needs to be
done in
the public eye. This is what League of Women Voters is all about
-
period!
Thirdly - Elaine Bush would like to let you all know about a
community training event coming up next week at the Kettunen
Center
south of Cadillac
http://web2.canr.msu.edu/inservice/course.cfm?course=6568
This would be particularly applicable to any League member or
community organization board member who will be engaged in
conducting
or moderating public forums/debates this year. It will also
teach
valuable skills for current or prospective elected officials and
board members.
